Welcome to the Rotary Club of South Hill"
July 1, 2018
My Rotary year theme is “Be the Inspiration” and I am going to try very hard to do that as lead the club for 2018-2019. You will see how we make a difference every day in the community, the country and the world as you visit our web site or face book page. We are a hard working sweat equity club that puts heart and soul into all we do to help build a better community where we live, work and play.
The South Hill Rotary Club has been in existence since 1928 and has been an important part of the life of the town of South Hill for 90 years. Over this time the club has undergone continuous growth and numerous changes. We are highly involved in our local community and we have grown to support the international community with our donations to “PolioPlus”, to the Rotary Foundation and with participation in some international grants.
The primary focus of the club has evolved over the years to the topic of school involvement. Our members are “Lunch Buddy Mentors”, sponsors of the “Accelerated Readers” program and we conduct an Annual “Dictionary Project” at South Hill Elementary School and LaCrosse Elementary School. We host an Annual “4-Way Test Essay Contest” at Park View Middle School, and we provide a minimum of six $1,000.00 scholarships to seniors eligible to attend Park View Senior High School. We also support The Bread Box Food Pantry, Toys for Tots, Gleaning for the World Teddy Bear project, Kids=Play, our local hospital VCU/CMH and more We don’t forget other organizations in our support of the community. We serve a steak dinner each year to our local Police Department, Fire Department, Sheriffs Department, State Police and Rescue Squad and we sponsor a “Donut Day” for all of our local teachers. These are just some of the projects in our home community.
In order to fund such programs, we put a lot of time and energy into working local events, fundraising and our newest endeavor "Flags For Heroes.". We also hold an annual Reverse Raffle fund raiser to support all of our educational involvement. With all this work and activity, we still manage to have meetings that are both informative and fun. We are a club that considers each member as part of our family and we try to support each through our club fellowship as well as in the community as a whole.
We invite you to look through these pages and to enjoy seeing what a truly active Rotary Club can do locally, on the district level and internationally.
Thanks for dropping in….
